The only metal band that’s melodic, technical, has little screaming, and that’s very talented (to my knowledge) is protest the hero. They cant be the only ones out there though. Dream Theater and Symphony X are very well known ones, but they’re not the level of technicality im looking for. Im looking for something that’s less technical and less heavy than behold the arctopus and more technical than dream theater. Irepress was a very good band, but it had no vocals (which i want). Pth cant be the ONLY technical, and melodic band with vocals that don’t scream too much (by not much screaming, i mean at least 60% of their music is not screaming of any kind), right?

They scream more than i’d like.

Dragonforce, bless the fall, Elegy, Spiral Architect, Into Eternity (when they’re not screaming (but i don’t like screaming)) have pussy vocalists that i just don’t like their voices (very girly voices, idk how else to explain it).

I don’t like melodic metalcore because most of the bands scream too much, and i like to understand 60% of what im hearing. lol. Killswitch Engage is decent, but they’re not very technical.

Irepress and The Cancer Conspiracy have awesome technicality and things, but they have no vocals which I want. Confessor is good, but the vocalist is weird. He isnt really singing, hes more like…yelling i guess (not screaming though) but it has no pitch. The Black Mages are good, but they have too much synth and no vocals (they played music for final fantasy ). Opeth is good, but they have little vocals. Joe Satrian is good, but he doesnt have a vocalist…or anyone else lol. Metallica is good, but the instrumentals have to much drive; they’re just a bit heavy for my taste. Liquid Tension Experiment Planet X are other technical bands (not as technical as Irepress) that are good but dont have a vocalist. Arcane is ok, but they have too much synth. Adagio is ok. And i dont want vocalists that sound like James LaBrie because 50% of all progressive metal vocalists have that exact voice; it gets old. Watchtower is good besides the vocals; their vocalist sounds like James LaBrie (i dont like that so much). Power of Omens is good besides the vocalist whos similar to *guess who* James LaBrie. I don’t like testament, but Shadows Fall is ok and Mutiny Within is good. The Ocean is good, but theyre not as technical as I want. Too little sweeps and things, and too much drive. Vocals are ok, but yeah they dont have enough sweeps, impressive guitar playing, and time signature changes. They remind me a little of Soudgarden, but The Ocean is more metalish than them. lol. Ihsahn is way too heavy for me; too much screaming and drive.

Just to make sure I’m not misunderstood, I’m looking for technicality more in time signature variation (more than 3/4 or 6/4 or 7/4, more like 5/4 or 9/4. I’ve heard 23/8 and 15/16 in some weird bands and those were pretty sick riffs, but 4/4 to 7/4 is overused and boring). Variation with key signatures i like, but that’s not hard to find, nor is skilled playing

i can’t for the life of me remember the title or anything and parts of the book that i do remember can’t help me find it on the net. if you can help that’d be great. i apologize ahead of time because the details are rough but i do remember a good bit of the story. i think it’s a young adult book because i remember reading it in middle school.

it’s about a nameless orphan girl who lives in a hut and everyone just calls her waif. in the beginning she had a bought an apple and went home singing a rhyme that made her one apple become many.

later shes living alone and it’s winter i guess she brings an old lady out of the cold and she learns herbs and stuff from her and she names her (i thought) cerderwin because she has a birthmark on her chest that is like from the story of a sorceress who has an ugly/stupid/monster boy child and she tries to make him better by creating this magical potion to make him smarter and whatnot but it gets taken by her apprentice who turns himself into some kind of grain so he can hide in a mill so the sorceress turns herself into a bird and eats him. then later the sorceress has a beautiful girl child and she feels bad for her boy so she puts her girl in a basket with herbs that stained her chest and sent her down river. and apparently the sorceress’ name was cerderwin? and that’s why the old lady gave the waif that name.

okay. then the old lady leaves and the waif is walking along when lo and behold the prince falls sick off his horse and nobody knows what to do so she runs up and sticks some herb in his mouth and voila he’s better. boom. she becomes the royal healer person/nurse for his daughter.

um. then a plague hits and she kidnaps the princess and runs so she won’t get sick but the prince finds them and takes his daughter back home. when the waif returns to the castle, the princess has been replaced by a changeling because she knew she had the plague and was going to die so she had eaten the waif’s magic jelly bean?

um. then later the waif is to be burned at the stake for something and she calls a power rhyme to return the true princess. and then she accepts that she is cerderwin? and turns into a bird and flies away.

i know all that sounded horrible but if you know anything about it i’d love to hear it. thanks.

My parents adopted a 3 pound 7 month old chihuahua from someone who works at their vet. My mom picked up the little dog on Monday. She was happy and healthy and friendly and loving all day Monday and all day Tuesday. However, Tuesday morning my dad accidentally gave her the wrong food. Instead of giving her royal canin puppy food, he gave her my dogs’ science diet light (my husband and I are on vacation visiting my parents with our two dogs). The kiblets were little, so my dad thought it was her food. She ate a bunch of the science diet on tuesday morning and has not eaten since. we noticed on wednesday that she was not feeling good and was not as happy and perky. we took her to the vet yesterday morning and they told us they thought it was parvo as she had blood in her stool and the vet said that “it smelled like parvo”. they immediately told us her chances did not look good. They kept her on an IV all day and told us to pick her up later that evening. They took x-rays and saw something funny in her abdomin making them think that it was a foreign body in her intestine right below the stomache. she has been throwing up and has diarrhea and cannot keep anything including water or the oral medicines they have given her down. As of last night, the vets were leaning more towards a foreign body and not parvo, but the surgery to remove the foreign body would be between $1000-$2000 and the vet would not even perform it on her because he thinks she is so weak at this point that she would not survive the surgery. The vets kept her on IV over night, but when the nurse went to get her in the morning she said that the IV had somehow come undone and the dog had not been getting IV all night. She survived through the night without the IV. they did another x ray this morning and said that what they thought was a foreign body got a little bit small over night. at this point, it could be parvo, or another gastrointestinal virus, or a foreign body, or all three, or just two of those. the vets have no idea. they are going to do barium xrays to try to find out for sure if it is a foreign body. if its a foreign body, the doctor said he has done all he can do and the bestthing for the dog would be to put her to sleep, which is so hard to even think about but he said he would not do the surgery because my parents would incur all this expense and he really doesnt think she would make it through the suregery because of how weak she is (she hasnt eaten since tuesday morning). if it is not a foreign body, the vet is still giving her a 10-20% chance of surviving. he said her condition is poor/guarded. If what is making her sick is not a foreign body, should we take her home and try to nurse her back to health with home remedies such as giving her chicken with chicken broth or any other suggestions some of you may have? or is that only prolonging her starving to death? If its a foreign body, we have read things online like giving her pertoleum jelly or pumpkin puree to help her body dislodge whatever it is. Would this even still be prolonging her starvation as she cannot keep anything down? I am totally against euthanasia, but I am not sure if it is because I am naive/selfish and think that there is always something else that might save her. The vet seems to think that the best thing for the poor little dog is to put her to sleep. My parents have had this dog for 5 days and she has already touched our hearts so greatly. Please, if anyone has any suggestions or comments, I would greatly appreciate them. Please, no mean comments either, we are trying to do what is best for the dog.
Also, I forgot to add, the doctor gave her an anti-vommiting shot and she has still been throwing up even though she got that shot. The anti-vommiting shot is supposed to shut down the parts of the brain that make her want to throw up. The vet said there are very few dogs that still throw up through this medicine.
More info- The vet did a parvo test and it came back negative. it was a snap test. but he said that the test looks for the antibodies the dog creates to fight parvo, not the parvo itself and he said it could just be too soon to tell if it is in fact parvo.
AND the vet place is not open all night. There was no one there with her all night to see if the IV was out, they just said keeping her there over night giving her fluids would be the best for her even though there wouldnt be anyone there. I just feel absolutely terrible for the dog because we left her there knowing there would be no one there with her but knowing that getting fluids would be the best for her, but then she didnt even get anything anyway.
